Working with People

To be a successful Councilmember, you need to collaborate with colleagues at the local, state, and federal levels. While I may not agree with some County, State or Federal policies, I am always willing to meet with County, State or Federal Legislators to advance the interests of the residents of Lomita, especially when they result in legislation and/or funding beneficial to the city.

I met California State Legislators in January at the California Contract Cities Association Legislative Tour and again in March at the League of Cities Summit to express my concern with retail theft impacting both residents and businesses; I am glad to see new legislation passed and signed by the Governor to address the issue.

I attended the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference in March.  The discussions with federal and Department of the Navy officials were very beneficial; I am hoping for more information to share in the near future when the Department of Defense Appropriate Act is passed.

This past month I met with County officials at the California Contract Cities Summit to discuss ballot measures A and G.

In addition, there's on-going meetings and events throughout the year that I attend as the city Mayor/Councilmember. The  Drug Free Walk, Founders Day, Lemonade Day, Business Grand Opening, Movies Under the Stars, National Night Out, State of the City and Tree Lighting Ceremony are just a few examples.
